J’ai tant pleuré devant The Hate U Give. J’ai adoré l’histoire, les morales, et toutes les références, qu’elles soient poignantes ou légères (Tupac, Harry Potter mdr…). Le film m’a particulièrement marquée par la répétition de la référence à Tupac : T.H.U.G. L.I.F.E. signifie « The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody », soit « La haine qu’on donne aux enfants fout tout le monde en l’air ». Tupac expliquait que ce que la société inflige aux plus jeunes finit toujours par lui retomber dessus. Le titre du livre et du film s’inspire directement de ce sigle, qui sert de fil conducteur pour explorer la répétition de la violence, des préjugés et des inégalités raciales. C’est Khalil (une victime de bavure policière) qui l’explique en premier à sa meilleure amie Starr : « Ce que la société nous donne quand nous sommes jeunes, ça leur revient à la figure quand on réagit. » Plus tard, Maverick, le père de Starr, reprend cette idée pour dénoncer un système injuste qui enferme les communautés noires dans un cycle de pauvreté et de violence : « C’est ce qu’on nous inflige… un système conçu contre nous. C’est ça, Thug Life. » Je pense pareil : la haine et les traumatismes sont des schémas répétitifs qui se transmettent de génération en génération. Et puis, j’ai aussi beaucoup aimé le tatouage du père, « Chaque raison de vivre donne une raison de mourir », une phrase qui claque et qui résume parfaitement l’intensité de leurs combats.

Meilleur film
Je l’ai vu il y a des années mais il m’a marqué, à l’époque il m’a fait beaucoup de peine (même période que la mort de George Floyd). Je ne sais pas ce qu’il me ferais aujourd’hui mais ça reste un très beau film qui dénonce les violences policières à l’égard des afro américains et l’injustice américaines.
