The Sessions est un film qui aborde un sujet rare au cinéma : l’intimité et la sexualité des personnes en situation de handicap. Basé sur l’histoire vraie du poète paraplégique Mark O’Brien, le film se distingue par sa sincérité et la qualité de ses interprétations, notamment celle d’Helen Hunt, qui incarne avec justesse une sexologue à la fois professionnelle et profondément humaine. Malgré un point de départ prometteur, le film souffre d’un traitement parfois trop superficiel. Là où on attendrait des moments d’une grande intensité émotionnelle, certaines scènes clés, comme les adieux entre Mark et la sexologue, manquent de profondeur. Ces passages, qui auraient pu ancrer le film dans une véritable exploration des relations humaines, se contentent d’effleurer les émotions sans vraiment les creuser. Il y a une impression de retenue qui empêche l’histoire de livrer tout son potentiel. D’un point de vue narratif, le rythme du film est lent, ce qui pourrait en frustrer certains. Cependant, cette lenteur reflète aussi la délicatesse avec laquelle le sujet est traité. The Sessions préfère la sobriété au mélodrame, ce qui est louable, mais cela le rend également un peu fade par moments, presque timoré. En somme, The Sessions est une œuvre honnête et bien intentionnée, mais qui ne parvient pas à transcender son sujet. Si le film suscite de l’émotion par sa thématique et ses performances, il reste trop en surface pour marquer durablement. Un biopic modeste, sincère, mais qui laisse un goût d’inachevé.
Bien que cette histoire vraie soit originale, il y a peu de surprise le long du film. Malgré tout celui-ci donne du baume au coeur.
