The first book is a generic dystopian book. The government is corrupted and the characters have to figure out what’s going on. There isn’t that much world building and a lot of people in their reviews complain about how predictable. What made me really like this book is the characters. June and Day are both really similar but they were born in opposite roles. June works for the republic. She is extremely smart. In her chapters she is always analyzing everything that is going on and noticing all the small details. Day is a criminal that causes problems for the republic. He is smart but doesn’t think in the level that June does. He is really athletic. Both of these characters have so much personally and I enjoy both of them. Ton of entertainment come from the action scenes. There are chase, one on one fighting and escaping scenes. There is some romance. I think of it as more of instant attraction than instant love. I thought that it was a descent pace. There isn’t that much development in romance but it doesn’t go to far. June makes her decisions based on what she thinks is right and not based on “love”.
