Résumé
This Special Edition of The Hunger Games includes the most extensive interview Suzanne Collins has given since the publication of The Hunger Games; an absorbing behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the series; and an engaging archival conversation between Suzanne Collins and YA legend Walter Dean Myers on writing about war. The Special Edition answers many questions fans have had over the years, and gives great insight into the creation of this era-defining work. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Many info that I missed or weren't dipcted in the movie: 1. Reason why Katniss is not closed to her mom, the reason for the way she talked to her mom before she left to the Capital 2. More personality described about the Gale and Peta. They’re both written as very co siderate genuinely nice boys while the movie didn't show any bits of that. - Katniss’s first encounter with Peta at his backyard in the movie showed completely different impression of how Katniss thought about Peta at beginning - I thought she hated him for throwing a bread at her in the rain as if he threw it to a pig. But in the book it was actually that Peta was kind and knowing that he consistently gave her and her family bread afterwards really changed my perspective about Peta. Bow made sense that why Katniss later married to Peta. Not just because of the experience they went through but because Katniss actually had respect towards him in the first place. He represented as a hope and rare kindness in District 12 which she sincerely valued while she struggled. 3. Heymitch is very drunk and barely talked unless he’s sober or less drunk. But in the movie he's not so drunk. Looked sharp. The personality is not so good but explains why he’s always drunk in the book. 4. The daily survival in District 12 - hunting and the trade routine - goat milk for breads, strawberries for money. How cruel the world is to Katniss and people in District 12. And what main industry of each districts are explained in the book that made all sense about how district 1-3 are more richer than other district 5. In the movie, Katniss got the mockingjay badge for free from the old lady of the store at the black market but in the book her friend gave it to her as she left to Capital and it should be made out of gold which is very expensive that Katniss wouldn't be able to afford but her friend can 6. Peeta’s way more in love with Katniss than he is in the movie. More charming. 7. Had personal story and Katniss’s thoughts about Thresh - nothing explained about this guy in the movie but the books gives way more disclosure of his existence. 8. The rationale at the hunger games are well explained that its just not a event occurring like it is in the movie but more of strategy, emotions, events and cruelty mixed. 9. Wolf mutts are actually dead tributes turned into them. Very cruel. They are just mutated animals in the movie. 10. Cato’s death was so much more painful and lasted for hours in the book. 11. Peetais way more injured in the book and he actually had that injured leg cut off and replaced with plastic detention. - shocking. Feel bad about Peeta
Great book. Emotional and devastating. Slightly different from the movie but the book was better.
Absolutely
An encapsulating dystopian trilogy, that kept me re-reading for years.
I read this book for the first time in 6th grade. I was neutral about the book back then. Now i enjoy it a little bit more than what i did back when i first read it. This is my third time reading it and i enjoy this book the more i read it. I always remembered the story very fondly. The story is very interesting. A girl volunteering, in place of her sister, to go into a battle royal competition to the death. if the author wanted to she could write many books about the different hunger games and i would read them. The nice thing about the story is actions have consequences. People get injuries that will effect them for the rest of their lives, Katniss makes mistakes, people die. Katniss lasted a long time because people helped her. Also the mutts were cool and freaky. Pretty much all the characters i really enjoyed. Katniss was clueless with the romance stuff but it made sense why. I still really enjoy her and she is really smart. Peeta was fun and sweet. I really liked many side characters like Prim, Rue, Haymitch, Effie, Thresh
