Résumé
Georgette Thomas accompagnée de sa fillette, se rend dans une petite ville du Texas pour y retrouver son époux Henry libéré sur parole du pénitencier local. Ce dernier veut se construire une nouvelle vie et loue une maison pour sa famille. Il gagne sa vie comme chanteur dans une boite de nuit. La mère adoptive d'Henry, vieille bigote qui l'a recueilli orphelin, le considère toujours comme un bon à rien. Le jour de sa mort, Henry qui la rend responsable d'avoir gâché sa vie, profane sa sépulture et il est arrêté par le sheriff. Après un court moment de liberté, Henry regagne la prison tandis que Georgette et sa fille quittent définitivement la ville.
