Plutôt bien fait. Huis clos psychologique
Dans « The guilty », on suit le combat d’un homme pour rendre justice auprès d’une femme qu’il pense être kidnappée et en danger. On peut assister en parallèle du film à des micros scènes qui nous dévoilent que le personnage principal n’est pas complètement neutre dans sa vie privée et qu’il est aussi dans quelques affaires concernant la justice. À la fin du film, lorsqu’il comprend qu’il aide depuis le début la coupable d’un terrible crime, il semble réaliser ses propres erreurs, comme ramené à quelque chose de plus personnel. La scène de fin dans les toilettes où il prend conscience de ses propres failles, reste la scène clée du film, celle qui apporte le point de moralité final : l’apothéose de la justice. Excellente prestation de Jake Gyllenhaal qui a particulièrement su bien incarner l’émotion de la colère et de la rage, de l’anxiété et du stress, puis finalement de la culpabilité et du regret. La tension est maintenue par le maintien des scènes sans coupure, nous vivons l’émotion que traverse le personnage principal. Le film est condensé sur la propre perspective d’un seul personnage, faisant de cette proposition authentique, un véritable pied dans le réel pour les spectateurs. « The guilty » est un film sur l’évolution de ses sentiments intérieurs au travers de découvertes dynamiques, un bon 15/20.
