This was a reread. I read it four years ago. The first time that I read it I thought that the book was decent. It was rated 3 stars. I ended up marking it down half a star. This time around there things that annoyed me. 1. The language: the book makes up its own words including swear words. They don’t really fit because it feels like they want to swear but want to keep it PG. other than that there is no reason for them to use those words instead of the actual word. It is establishes that they remember items and evens but no detail. For an example they can remember learning to ride a bike but but not peoples faces or details about the memory. Also it has only been 3 or 4 years. That is not long enough for the language to change unless the kids just decided to make up words. 2. Chosen one?????: i wouldn’t call it chosen one but it has the same problems as books with the chosen one trope. Characters have been trying to do something for years and then suddenly the main character is able to do it without any training. There is nothing special about him either. He isn’t smart or a good fighter. The only difference is that he is more curious and willing to take risk then other people. Still their has been people in the past that have tried to think outside the box and got killed. 3. With holding information: it took longer than it should of to get some of the information because no one would tell the main character anything. I know that most people don’t know much but there is still a lot of information that other characters do know that they wouldn’t tell for no good reason. A good example of this is the changing. No one would explain exactly what it is until it is convent for the plot. Not even Chuck (main character’s friend) would explain it until it was time. Even when Tomas asked why no one would tell him anything Chuck just said “That’s how things are here”. 4. Characters: the characters are boring. Thomas is a average main character. Most people enjoined Chuck but i never really cared for him. I was just meh about him. His personally just never clicked with me. He held information too and some scenes he was almost was like “just get over it”. His playfulness I didn’t connect to. For the other characters, they needed more depth and most of them weren’t interesting. Teresa I didn’t like because of next book. This is a book that I feel like people that are new to YA or reading would enjoy more. When you read other books and compare it. This book isn’t really that good. Some of the action scenes are fun. Newt is decent but that may be because I read other books.

It was pretty good just for the most part I feel like there wasn't a lot of action. It more had a lot of talking and puzzle solving. I liked the movie better because it had more action and less random un needed details.
