Summary

The Musée des Arts Forains, located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, is a unique private museum dedicated to the world of funfairs and fairground art. Housed within the Pavillons de Bercy, it was established in 1996 by Jean Paul Favand, an actor and antiques dealer, from his personal collection. The museum showcases a wide range of objects dating from 1850 to 1950, including 14 amusement rides, 16 fair stalls, and 1522 independent works. Highlights include vintage merry-go-rounds, German swings, hundred-year-old bicycles, and a Hooghuys Organ. The museum is divided into three thematic rooms: The Venetian Lounges, The Theatre of Marvels, and The Fairground Art Museum. The Theatre of Marvels offers a glimpse into the grand world fairs of the early 20th century, with immersive audiovisual displays. The Venetian Lounges transport visitors to a Venetian setting with an Italian opera-based show performed by automata. The Fairground Art Museum pays tribute to the 19th-century funfair, where visitors can ride a bicycle merry-go-round or participate in a Parisian Waiters' Race. The museum is open to the public by prior reservation and is also used for corporate events. In 2009, it was listed as a Living Heritage Company. A visit to the Musée des Arts Forains offers a nostalgic journey into the world of vintage fairground attractions and is a must-visit for those interested in cultural history and amusement rides.
