Summary

The Paris Zoological Park, also known as the Vincennes Zoo, is a renowned facility of the National Museum of Natural History, situated in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Covering an area of 36 acres in the bois de Vincennes, the zoo is designed to complement the Ménagerie du Jardin des plantes and is dedicated to the observation of animal behavior in suitable environments. The zoo is famous for its large artificial 65 m high rock, known as the "Big Rock", and a 4,000 m2 greenhouse that replicates a tropical rainforest climate. The zoo was originally opened in 1934 but was closed from 30 November 2008 to 12 April 2014 for renovations. The renovation, which began on 7 December 2011, took nearly two and a half years and included a complete overhaul of the animal enclosures. These were grouped into five major natural environments, or biozones, to meet modern standards for animal welfare, public safety, and museology, with a particular focus on environmental respect. The Paris Zoological Park is a must-visit for animal lovers and those interested in natural history.
