The Musée Cognacq-Jay, located in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, is a treasure trove of fine art and decorative items, primarily from 18th century France. The museum is housed in the Hôtel Donon, a building dating back to 1575, and its collection is displayed across four floors in twenty paneled rooms styled in the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. The collection was amassed between 1900 and 1925 by Théodore-Ernest Cognacq and his wife Marie-Louise Jaÿ, founders of La Samaritaine department store, and gifted to the City of Paris upon Cognacq's death. The museum was originally located at 25 boulevard des Capucines, but was moved to its current location in 1990. The collection includes around 1200 items, including European and Chinese ceramics, jewels, snuffboxes, and works by artists such as Canaletto, Fragonard, and Rembrandt. The museum is part of the public institution Paris Musées since 2013.
