The Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, located in Paris, France, is a unique museum dedicated to the indigenous art and cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum houses over a million objects, with 3,500 on display at any given time. The museum opened in 2006 and is the newest of the major museums in Paris. It is situated in the 7th arrondissement, close to the Eiffel Tower and the Pont de l'Alma. The museum was a project brought to completion by President Jacques Chirac, following a tradition of French presidents building museums as monuments to their time in office. The museum's collection combines the collections of two different museums: the Musée national des Arts d'Afrique et d'Océanie and the ethnology laboratory of Musée de l'Homme. The museum has been the subject of controversy, with calls for the repatriation of its collections that were acquired through colonial conquest. Despite this, it remains a significant cultural and educational center, serving as both a museum and a center for research.
