The Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg (MAMCS) is a renowned art museum in Strasbourg, France. Founded in 1973 and opened in its own building in 1998, it is one of the largest museums of its kind in France. The museum houses an extensive collection of over 18,400 works from the period between 1870 (Impressionism) and today, including paintings, sculptures, graphic arts, multimedia, and design. It also boasts a wide range of pieces in its photographic library. The museum organizes numerous exhibitions annually, showcasing the works of specific artists or retrospectives of artistic genres. The building, designed by Parisian architect Adrien Fainsilber, is located on the left bank of the river Ill and features a spacious roof terrace with a museum cafe. The museum also includes an art library, an art book shop, and a multi-purpose auditorium. It is conveniently served by its own tramway stop. The museum's collections include works by famous artists such as Gustave Doré, Max Klinger, Jean Arp, and Vassily Kandinsky, among others. It also owns the first cubist painting ever purchased by a public French collection.
