So I have to admit, I’m a Fortnite fiend. I’ve played since chapter 1 season four, and have almost consistently bought the battle pass for each season all the way up to now chapter 6 season 3. I played consistently almost every week, doing the challenges, buying skins, etc. It’s a fun game, I enjoy the collabs and new content. I enjoy how fresh everything feels with Fortnite, they constantly update each season add new modes, events, new weapons. It looks like Fortnite has built a system that makes the game not feel stale, which I appreciate. There is a bigger issue however with Fortnite, and that is that it’s a live service game. In this vast world of live service games, it sucks that they’re almost isn’t any option to physically own your games. Theoretically, all of your steam or epic games downloads could magically just disappear if the video game companies decided to terminate the game. This has happened to some great games I invested a lot of time in, like EchoVR or Multiverses. Fortnite feels different however, it seems that they’re in a position where they could take as many creative liberties as they want to, and nobody could stop them because they built such a platform. A Battle Royale season is under performing? Just update the festival mode to something new and trending! Does no one care that Bruno Mars is the headliner for the festival pass? Add Squid Game! They’ll forget about it! Fortnite has the ability to compensate for mistakes with the other fun modes they offer. So I feel ok investing my time and money into this fun live service game, since (fingers crossed) Fortnite doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
