Reviews and Comments
1 reviewsAmazing game, this game was MY SHIT back in like 2016, so coming back to it after so long is so refreshing. It’s just as good as I remembered it being. The characters are vibrant and expertly crafted. All characters in this game make up just about any personality you can think of. Dumb jock, aggressive fuckboy, tsundere, careless party goer, shy anime-loving nerd. You could really get any character archetype and romance them in this game. It’s truly way ahead of its time. I really like the world building in this game. It feels like a really fucked up Dungeons and Dragons universe, and I’m all for it. Any sort of mystical creature fits in this game’s universe and lets the player’s imagination do a lot of the heavy lifting to immerse themselves in this game. The dialogue is really funny and witty. Lots of conversations between characters that made me chuckle or scoff. A recent one I liked was solving a situation by singing “Wannabe” by Spice Girls, and voicing it with my friends was so funny because it went on beat with the song. The writing is excellent in this game. If I could maybe give a teeny tiny critique, on very rare occasions I would shorten some of the dialogue. At times when I would voice certain characters, I’d run out of breath from how long and wordy a certain sentence is. I’m sure this isn’t a problem if you just read it in your head, but if you plan to voice out the dialogue, some conversations are very difficult to read concisely. The gameplay is simple but effective. Up your stats by going to certain locations, certain love interests appeal to certain statistics, answer correctly with your highest stat on situations to succeed, or lose the situation and get punished by losing stats. What I also like, is how multiplayer is more a party minigame experience then just a standard visual novel. To determine turn order, you do these fun hypotheticals and get to argue with your friends on who goes first. I like small things like that cause that’s what gets people to return to games like these. Also, having an end goal being the monster prom provides a much needed goal. As opposed to other visual novels like DDLC, Monster Prom is more of a “game” where there’s winners and losers. While DDLC is more of a narrative then a “game”, I can see how people enjoy Monster Prom’s lose and fun gameplay then DDLC complex and deep narrative. Overall, really fun game and cool characters to resonate with. 8/10. Something tells me that Monster Camp will be a bit better…
