Synopsis
Frantz Fanon, a French psychiatrist from Martinique, has just been appointed head of department at the psychiatric hospital in Blida, Algeria. His methods contrast with those of the other doctors in a context of colonization. A biopic in the heart of the Algerian war where a fight is waged in the name of Humanity.

Bien mais il faudrait le revoir attentivement Fidele à la personnalité de Fanon Mais ne montre pas tout montre la violence coloniale
De Jean Claude Barny. 2025. Pas trop compris le propos du film. Un peu formel et froid. Telerama Fanon, de Jean-Claude Flamand-Barny, sorti en avril dernier, souffrait d’être un biopic académique sur le précurseur des études postcoloniales. Celui-ci est clairement plus humble et s’en tient au chapitre de son travail en Algérie française, où le Martiniquais a été psychiatre à l’hôpital de Blida-Joinville, de 1953 à 1956. Un thérapeute révolutionnaire, qui modifie en profondeur les méthodes de soin, favorise la socialisation (à travers sorties, foot, chant, musique) et la fraternité avec les « indigènes ». Chronique proche du documentaire, le film est sobre, presque hiératique dans sa fidélité aux faits. Alexandre Desane incarne l’auteur à venir des Damnés de la Terre en visionnaire imperturbable. Le recours à des acteurs non professionnels ajoute une part de vérité troublante à cette fiction fragile, maladroite parfois, mais qui vaut comme introduction singulière à l’œuvre d’un grand homme encore méconnu.
