Synopsis
In 1958, in the state of Virginia, the idea of interracial marriage was not only considered to be immoral to many, it was also illegal. When Richard and Mildred fall in love, they are aware of the eyes staring at them and the words said behind their backs. It's when they get married, however, that words and looks become actions, and the two are arrested. The couple decide to take their case all of the way to the Supreme Court in order to fight for their love. Based on a true story.

🎬 Un long-métrage d'une force narrative incroyable de Jeff Nichols, sur le thème de la ségrégation aux Etats-Unis dans les années 60. Joel Edgerton offre une performance tout en retenue, mais c'est Ruth Negga qui fait figure de vraie révélation du film, tant elle dégage une justesse splendide selon l’intensité des moments filmés. Mildred et Richard Loving décident de se marier, sauf qu’il est blanc et qu’elle noire. L’Etat de Virginie interdisant les mariages interraciaux, le couple va alors porter leur affaire devant les tribunaux. Tourné en Virginie, sur les lieux mêmes de l’histoire, car l’histoire est ici basée sur des faits réels. Un drame subtil, sobre, une grande histoire d'amour. 🎬 🎬 🎬
