Un film à l’ambiance prenante, mystérieuse et parfaitement maîtrisée. La réalisation de M. Night Shyamalan crée une tension constante sans jamais en faire trop, et le twist final, devenu célèbre, est brillamment amené. Haley Joel Osment est bluffant de justesse dans son rôle, et Bruce Willis, tout en retenue, apporte beaucoup d’émotion. Si le rythme peut sembler lent par moments, c’est au service d’une atmosphère lourde et troublante. Un film marquant, qui joue autant sur l’émotion que sur la surprise, et qui mérite d’être vu au moins une fois, ne serait-ce que pour son dénouement inoubliable.
