I wanted to watch this since Anthony Starr acted in it, and I had pretty low expectations. This movie met exactly my expectations, it was just as bland as I thought it would be. Anthony Starr acted well, his lines were kinda cartoony over the top evil, but he did well with what he was given. Viola Davis was also really good as a lead, it was refreshing to see her be the main focus as opposed to other projects like the DC franchise. Lots of plot holes that were really apparent. Unconscious people who suddenly disappear once people look away. The presidents kids are super irresponsible, running into gunfights and becoming integral parts of escaping. Overall lots of small little annoying things that add up. I don’t know how to feel about the newer technology that is apart of the plot. On one hand, it feels fresh and modern for a movie to have the concept of deepfakes, AI, crypto, stuff like that since it’s an integral part of our culture as of late, and I do believe they did deepfakes justice. It wasn’t corny or over the top, it’s realistic with how real deepfakes can be. On an another hand, it kinda feels just a tad bit forced? The fact that people won’t even consider that the deepfaked videos of the leaders could maybe be fake feels really out of place and unrealistic. Anytime I see a video that slightly looks wrong, I’ll look around to see if it’s AI generated. And the crypto wallet, although I didn’t like that the crypto wallet was an actual tangible metal thing since the story called for a physical object the characters fight over, I think it was still pretty realistic and made sense. One scene I liked was the fist fight scene with the president and the big bald soldier, they played a cool EDM song over it and I liked how the song juxtaposed what we were seeing. Overall, a pretty bland movie that hit every predictable beat aside from the rare scene or two. Anthony Starr did well with what he was given, but the script really fucked him over. 5/10, I don’t regret watching this, but for sure I’ll forget this movie in a week or two.
