I really liked this movie, definitely more on the silly side, but it was a nice feel good movie. I do have some small issues with it, but it’s hard to hate such an uplifting and creative film like this. Everyone’s performance was good, Ryan Gosling was amazing as usual. The visuals were stunning, lots of great creative shots. I remember a scene where Grace is floating upside down in space and it cuts to an upside down shot of Grace sitting in a classroom and it slowly rotates back to normal. It was a great match cut and this movie had tons of well composed and interesting angles. The editing was good, I do feel like it was slightly too snappy? Like it cut frequently between shots, sometimes too quickly I can’t fully understand what’s in the frame. This is probably a nitpick, but I just wanted to mention since some scenes involved lots of quick cuts. As with many movies, I had a hard time understanding the lady at the beginning due to her thick accent. This is most definitely an issue affecting only me, but actors that have thick accents are almost incomprehensible to me. I got the gist of what she was saying though, so I wasn’t too lost. The CGI was good, Rocky looked excellent and all of the Zero G stuff looked really convincing. There is a scene where Grace is trying to run away from the alien spaceship, and every time he clicks the booster, items that are floating around the ship are affected by the force, which I thought was neat and was cool to look at. Overall, great movie, it might not be a strong favorite for me, but it was good and i had a good time watching it. 8/10
