Community Reviews

Opinions on 'Materialists' are mixed, with some viewers appreciating the film's exploration of love versus materialism, highlighted by a strong cast including Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. However, others felt the film failed to emotionally engage, with criticisms pointing to a lack of depth in character development and a storyline that sometimes felt superficial and predictable. The aesthetic appeal of the settings and actors provided some redemption, but overall, the film struggled to leave a lasting impact.

👍 Strong cast and intriguing theme of love versus materialism.

👎 May lack emotional depth and engaging storyline.

I insisted Brian to watch this with me today (12th June 2025) which was the first day since released. Very peaceful relaxing and Christ Evan was the one and only reason I wanted to watch this movie for. Surprisingly Brian enjoyed this movie more than I expected and did. He said he liked it as much as the latest Mission Impossible. I found the dialogue between Dakota and Pedro when they had a date at restaurant was very weird and awkward and unrealistic - Dakota making statements while Pedro kept asking questions. But overall his movie was very good. One thing that made me think about was that when Dakota said that Pedro made her think herself valuable but she sounded insecure and scared to move forward with the relationship with Pedro. Why feel insecure when this guy you're dating makes you feel you’re valuable? Is it just the insecurity? I wanted to know. My mom asked me to think when I’m 50 years old and see if I’ll still choose a younger guy but poor instead of an old man but rich.
