🎬 L’atmosphère, lourde et menaçante, est bien construite par la mise en scène de Gary Fleder, qui évite souvent le gore gratuit au profit d’une tension psychologique, efficace et soutenue. Morgan Freeman, incarne avec justesse le Dr. Alex Cross, un détective psychologue cultivé, calme, et obstiné. Il confère au personnage une autorité tranquille, parfaite pour équilibrer la tension du film. Il apporte également une touche d’humanité dans une intrigue sombre. "Le Collectionneur" est la première adaptation cinématographique des enquêtes d’Alex Cross, un personnage récurrent de James Patterson. Le second film, "Le Masque de l’araignée", sortira en 2001, toujours avec Morgan Freeman. Le personnage du Collectionneur (Casanova) serait partiellement inspiré de divers tueurs en série réels, notamment Ted Bundy.
