Difficulté initiale de montrer une vie où la guerre et l'engagement sans l'y réduire. Si le film parvient parfaitement à nous immerger dans le parcours de Lee Miller à travers son œuvre et ses découvertes (scènes réellement intense et difficilement supportable), son histoire sentimentale semble un peu bâclée, presque hollywoodienne et peu crédible. Le female gaze dans les scènes féminines et les modèles, superposé à celui de Lee Miller dans ses clichés, offre un regard nouveau sur une période déjà très explorée
