Premier film d'une trilogie réalisée par Bryan Singer, X-Men sort en l'an 2000 et nous dévoile un monde où il existe des humains pas tout à fait comme les autres : des mutants, qui suscitent l'hostilité des normaux, et qui se divisent sur l'attitude à adopter face aux menaces politiques. Les décors sont soignés, on a des intérieurs futuristes, les matériaux prennent vie sous l'influence des personnages et les effets spéciaux sont tout simplement bluffants pour l'époque ! Hugh Jackman apparaît en mauvais garçon méfiant, ténébreux, et son jeu d'acteur est correct, sans plus ; en revanche, Patrick Stewart en dirigeant dissident, Ian McKellen en antagoniste charismatique, et la jeune Anna Paquin sont excellents. Certaines lignes de dialogue sont mauvaises, trop simplistes, et le scénario a beau être simple, ce n'est certes pas un chef-d'oeuvre du genre mais un bon film tout de même, rythmé, avec un enjeu prenant et des scènes de combat bien filmées. Espérons que le deuxième reste de bonne facture.
