Summary
A group of camp counselors trying to reopen a summer camp called Crystal Lake, which has a grim past, are stalked by a mysterious killer.
Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting. Not knowing much about the Friday the 13th franchise, I would have assumed that the killer would have been the hockey mask Jason Voorhees. But I was surprised when it was just this... middle-aged woman who was killing everyone. That kind of confused me, I was fully anticipating getting a grand reveal of Jason Voorhees at the very end that never came. Aside from that aspect of the film, I thought it was pretty ok. First off, the movie theater I watched it in was so loud. There were times that when there were screams or impacts, the speaker would peak and it was very distracting. But that's not going to affect my rating because that wasn't the film's fault, and it was probably the theater I watched it in with an issue with their speakers or something. It was a pretty generic slasher, very comparable to other slashers like A Nightmare on Elm Street. The kills are not very interesting or cool to look at. Besides the old nostalgic film look that this film had, and some very rare shots that had good composition, I didn't like much of this movie’s visual. I didn't really care much about the story, all of the characters were kind of insufferable except for the funny comedic guy, but he died really early on. So I couldn't really attach to any of these characters and relate to them. Also, Jason's mom at the end being the killer was very silly and didn't feel frightening at all. Lots of running around and pathetic fighting that was kind of just annoying to watch. Overall, I'm glad I watched this film. I had a decent time watching it and experiencing the 1st Friday the 13th film, but this is definitely worse than A Nightmare on Elm Street. 6/10
