Summary
1759. Mauritius is in the hands of the Kingdom of France. Massamba and Mati, two slaves in the plantation of Eugène Larcenet, live a life of fear and toil. He dreams for his daughter to be freed, while she longs to leave the green hell of sugarcane. One night, she runs away. Madame La Victoire, a famous slave huntress, is tasked with tracking her down. Massamba has no choice but to escape from the plantation in his turn. By doing so, he becomes a “maroon”, a fugitive who breaks forever with the colonial order…

Canal Primé au festival de Deauville 2024 " Une fenêtre sur le cinéma français"
Un peu long à se mettre en place mais la dernière demi heure est prenante. Un survival de forme classique mais qui traite dun sujet lourd et sérieux. Ça rend le propos digeste et concret. La réalisation souffre quand même de faiblesses (cadrages, effets ratés,...). Par ailleurs les 2 "stats" (Magimel et Cottin) si t finalement assez peu présents et écrits. J'imagine que c'est pour laisser la place principale aux noirs et esclaves. Si c'est le cas ça se tient du coup.
