6 octobre 2004 Afin de comprendre le drame qui s'est déroulé, un groupe de scientifiques pénètre dans le complexe top-secret d'Umbrella Corporation. Ils découvrent les survivants et les mettent en quarantaine mais, sans le vouloir, permettent au virus qui se trouvait enfermé de se répandre à Racoon, la ville toute proche. À leur tour, les habitants se transforment en terrifiants zombies.
