“Bill Murray and Pete Davidson are mobsters searching for Lewis Pullman and his pregnant girlfriend who are hiding with Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union and their son in their vacation cabin with Harris’s ex-wife, Jennifer Coolidge, in a movie that feels right at home in the post-Pulp Fiction 90’s cinema.” I was surprised to see that this movie was widely criticized. I felt both entertained by the plot and invested in the characters. Of course, this could be more the result of the actors than written material. Jennifer always elevates the writing and Ed Harris and Bill Murray especially shine far above the material and direction of the film. The largest drawback of the film is that Gabrielle’s character ends up dissatisfied in receipt of the short end of the stick, as black female characters are often destined to experience.
