The reviews reveal a strong affection for Sword Art Online, particularly praising its first season for its engaging storyline and memorable romance between Kirito and Asuna. While the series is celebrated for its innovative use of virtual reality in storytelling and evolving graphics, opinions diverge in later seasons, with some finding them less compelling and criticizing the lack of emotional depth and character development. Despite these criticisms, the series holds a special place for many as a pioneering anime in the genre.
👍 First season highly praised for its romance and plot.
👎 Later seasons may disappoint with less emotional depth.

I understand the criticisms behind majority of Season 2, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot ignore how good Season 1 was to me. I truly regard Season 1 of Sword Art Online to be my favorite anime season of all time. YES, I understand that is a wild stretch, but from my perspective it makes a bit of sense. Sword Art Online was the first anime I’ve ever watched, back around 2013-2014 when I watched it. Thinking back to that range of time, my nostalgia is at an all time high. I remember nothing but good things from watching Season 1, and even Season 2, but I will touch on Season 2 later. Season 1 is one of the only anime I would consider a comfort anime, as I don’t watch anime all that often anymore (but I’m slowly returning to it). I can’t exactly put it into words how strongly I feel about SAO, but I feel strongly about it lol. Even though I know Season 2 was a bit of a letdown, I still enjoyed it. GGO deserves more love than it gets, but that’s a conversation for another time lol.
