The story is really interesting. It’s about a new teacher who starts teaching a class full of super naughty kids. A lot of the previous teachers couldn’t handle them and ended up giving up, but this new teacher (who’s definitely not just an ordinary teacher) decides not to quit. Her name is Yankumi, and with all her hard work, she finally manages to win the kids over. Honestly, those students are crazy bad. It even made me wonder, “Do kids like this really exist in Japan?” because they’re seriously so rude to their teacher, lol. The scenes feel very manga-like, so some parts translate well into live-action, but others can feel a bit cringe. Still, if you like Japanese comics or manga-style stories, you’ll probably get used to it. The teacher also gives these super dramatic, heroic speeches all the time, which would feel kinda weird in real life, haha. But again, if you’re used to reading manga, this kind of thing will feel normal. Overall, the series is good. There are a lot of meaningful lessons you can take from it, especially about friendship, sincerity, hard work, and stuff like that. Personally, though, I think watching just one season is enough (since there are several seasons). In the next seasons, the students are different, and I already got attached to the ones in season 1. So yeah, that’s basically it.

Synopsis

Gokusen is the story of recently graduated Kumiko Yamaguchi, aka. Yankumi, and her life as a new high school teacher. Unlike the other new teachers at her school Kumiko gets placed with the toughest kids there. And has to deal with all their rebellious actions. However as time passes she gains her students respect by helping them out both in school and in their daily lives. Which is easy for her to do as her students remind her of her life at home, since she is a fourth generation crime syndicate member and next in line to head it up. She's gone straight and wants to be a teacher though, but she's one person in whose class you don't want to be caught fooling around.
