Community Reviews

Reviews reveal mixed feelings about 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'. While the visual spectacle continues to dazzle, with stunning CGI and immersive 3D effects, many feel the storyline is overly familiar and repetitive, echoing previous installments. The introduction of new characters and tribes adds some freshness, but doesn't fully compensate for the perceived lack of originality in the plot. The film's length and pacing also drew criticism, although the action sequences were frequently highlighted as thrilling.

👍 Visual effects and new character introductions are highlights.

👎 Plot may feel repetitive and overly familiar to previous films.

Avatar: Fire and Ash est impressionnant visuellement et d'un point de vue scénaristique. L'histoire reprend après

Too long. Better than 2nd, but worse than 1st

The character of Varang is so disappointing, with no nuance where many elements could have been better exploited. Visually impressive, even if some shots seem to have been designed for 3D or 4DX.

What a drastic fumble. To start off, I binged the Avatar today and didn't have time to watch Avatar WOTW. So I watched a recap of the second movie in order to know context for the third movie. Now I know that's not optimal, and that might have lead to a lot of my concerns with this movie. But I believe that even if I were to watch Avatar Way of the Water, I would still have these same concerns. First off, holy fuck, what is that runtime? No lie, I checked my watch like six times while watching this movie. It just drags unnecessarily long and it feels very repetitive and not needed. There's lots of different subplots happening at the same time (Like Nitiri having an injured shoulder or Loak helping a whale.) These subplots are very bloated and could easily be cut down to save the viewer's time and overall help the pacing. The characters are so mid, Jake Sully is a shell of who he was in Avatar 1. I feel like in Avatar 1, he was this very charismatic, all-around rounded dude that I could root for. In this, he's just so bland, boring, and generic. The only character that I thought was somewhat interesting in this one was Miles Quaritch. He felt like he actually developed into a person instead of being just a one-sided cartoony villain. The little scene with him and Spider in RDN was funny and showed a different side of what we usually see of him. I thought him offering a burger and thinking that he could pretend to be his dad added to his character quite well. There were a few scenes that I enjoyed. The Miles cocaine trip scene I thought was fun and unique. When Jake Sully gets arrested and gets put into the cage scene, I thought it was a cool change and created cool scenes to branch off of like the random dude that saves him with a bulldozer and Nitiri bombing the place. Other than that, I thought the big finale was kind of underwhelming. There’s also this scene in the beginning of the movie where Miles and Jake end up working together and sleep together with the whole family??? Even though Miles has a mission to retrieve Spider and turn in Jake Sulley. Miles can literally do both of those right then and there but he just… doesn’t??? And my final big issue… WHAT IS UP WITH THE FRAMERATE?!?!? I felt like I was losing my mind watching this film. Some scenes were 60 FPS, they were super smooth and looked like a video game cutscene, and some scenes were standard 30 FPS, which is perfectly fine. THE ISSUE is when you randomly switch between 60 and 30 FPS in the middle of scenes with no rhyme or reason. I somewhat get changing the FPS for action scenes to help the viewer be more immersed, but I could see/feel each switch and it was so distracting. This constant jumping between 60 and 30 FPS completely ruins the movie for me. 60 FPS looks way too smooth, like a weird video game cutscene or me playing Fortnite with 144 HZ cranking 90s. And 30 FPS looked way too choppy and slow compared to the previous 60 FPS shot. This left a bad taste in my mouth and this is the final nail in the coffin for me. James Cameron, you made an incredible first Avatar movie, but your Avatar sequels are not cutting it. You aren’t willing to expand in a more interesting thought provoking way and you stretch these films to their limits just so you can have time to show off your precious CGI water and creatures. Please do better man… 5/10.
